Personal Summary
Thanks for exploring my newsletter more. The name that your parents give to you plays a prominent role in your life. However, mine is often a great icebreaker or conversation starter.

Sorry, your name is what?
Whenever I meet a new person, they ask the same question nine out of ten times. Sometimes, it's immediate, or if they are trying to be polite, it will be after a few minutes. But it's along the lines of:
"Sorry, is Erik your last name?"
"Is JonErik your whole name?"
"Why were you named JonErik?"
"Could your parents not decide on a name?” There is always a quick chuckle afterward, as they are proud of their joke.
To begin with, I was named after both of my grandfathers: "John," and the other was called "Erik." My grandmother devised that idea, so I have her to thank for all the extra explaining I have to do.
I like that this was all part of her plan to make me the more Swedish child in the family while making it seem like the name was a neutral win-win as it acknowledged both sides of my family heritage. Most importantly, "JonErik" is a Scandinavian first name as she was raised above the Arctic Circle in Sweden.
Over the years, various nicknames have been attempted by friends, classmates, and teammates, such as:
Jerik
Generic
JonEe (but said like Johnny)
JE
Jon
But none of them felt right, as my family and heritage are essential aspects of my life. I am honored to be connected to both sides of my family wherever I go.
Having a unique and memorable name like that has become a superpower for me. I instantly stand out in the crowd of names due to the rarity of it, which is why I leverage it so heavily across my professional channels.
Now that we have passed that beginning introduction, it's time to elaborate on my professional self.
After high school, I enrolled in my local community college to pursue biochemistry for the biotechnology industry or as a physician assistant. I knew I wanted to help people, but I was unsure how best to utilize my skillset.
After making the website for Eat Streek Kitchen (read more on the excites page), I switched majors and enrolled in another community college to pursue a marketing associate's degree. That is when I truly flourished. I became a student-athlete for the college's rowing team.
Every morning at 6:30, our team was out on the water gliding across the water. That is when my strengths of determination and discipline had their most significant impact. However, all of that stopped when Covid hit in 2020. Once Zoom University was done, I transferred to San Diego State University for a marketing degree.
I have been involved with various clubs and have gathered marketing experience. I am about to graduate with a bachelor's in marketing and a plethora of knowledge from my club involvements and marketing internships.
I initially entered the marketing industry when I helped a clueless restaurant owner with her online presence. I enjoyed generating business for her that would have been otherwise ignored due to a lack of knowledge. My passion was helping people or businesses leverage their online presence.
My individualistic strength has allowed excel in forming partnerships and driving sales by tailoring their approach to the unique qualities of various customers and relationships. This was shown when I was a brand ambassador showcasing products at Erewhon Market.
I could best leverage these various strengths in a tech company. I enjoy the fast-paced nature of the industry, and to ensure that they meet the consumer’s changing needs, they quickly acclimate to ensure performance in their respective competitive sector.
I enjoy learning and improving myself. It combines my curiosity, thirst for knowledge, and excitement to try new things. Working for a tech company allows me to ensure that I am growing.
